Hello, to kick off the New Year, I’m making a few predictions… in no particular order but here are some trends I see popping off in 2012. 

Prediction: Rise And fall of Facebook 

Thought: In 2012 Facebook goes public which is going to be a big deal and very exciting. Once it goes public it starts having to monazite it’s focus shifts to less about “being cool” and user experience. They have too much data and control of us already. Too much info being shared. I’m noticing the cool thing right now is people saying I don’t have a FB account. 

Prediction: Beginning of the fall for Apple 

Thinking: Without Steve Jobs, He still has his power house team of Iver, Cook, etc but Apple is built on thinking differently and innovation that was driven mostly from Steve Jobs. It is a major loss we all suffered in 2011 and I think we’ll start to see some slips from Apple’s innovation and dynasty. Hopefully somebody fresh will step up and pick up the slack!

Prediction: Musical come back of the year - Asher Roth 

Thinking: In case you didn’t notice, there are a lot of white rappers in the game right now. And it continues to get flooded but the original dun-dada is an artist named Asher Roth. Over the past few years since his massive smash single “I Love College” changed the game, he has been in the lab, working on his craft and unleashing his creative juices. His new videos, mixtapes and word play are next level and with his album dropping this Spring… he’s an artist to watch. Not to mention he is managed by the music industry’s next great mogul, Scooter Braun. And for the sake of full disclosure, repped by NUE Agency. 

Prediction: Musical rookie of the year - Lana Del Rey 

Thinking: Think Lady Gaga meets Adele. Interesting when an east coast act has to break overseas to get any respect. Regardless, she’s got all the goods to blow up like the World…. You know the song… And soon you’ll know her music and face. 

Prediction: Electronic Dance Music (EDM) goes commercial 

Thinking: This year electronic music takes over the game. It’s not going to have the same shelf-life as say Hip-Hop in the 90’s or Rock in the 70’s and 80’s but the musical soundtrack of youth culture now becomes Electronic Music and they will be leading force of innovation in the space. Their model works for that in that it is not about selling records in the traditional way but the music experience. 

Prediction: Berocca blows up big in the US 

Thinking: I love this stuff. If you ever had a sleep over (wink-wink I miss you baby) then you know I start every morning with that artificial fresh squeezed orange juice. This stuff is effervescent gold and i see it creeping into the US this year and then blowing up big!

Prediction: This is the year of Tumblr. 

Thinking: Twitter but with more room to express yourself. The Tumblr community becomes the best way to express longer form ideals socially. If you don’t have a Tumblr account yet. Ya playing yourself. Reblog that. 

Prediction: Euro Nation crashes 

Thinking: This is going to suck and have a ripple effect on most economies but it’s clear to me anyway, that this isn’t going to be a great economic year especially for the EU. 

Prediction Twitter goes legit 

Thinking: With Facebook on the up and down and Twitter not going public quite yet, I think we see new growth on Twitter as the legitimize their biz model and continue to break stories first. 

Prediction: The Election will spark some necessary conversations for America’s Future 

Thinking: Yes this is an election year and will be a central theme in the news for all of 2012. I think Obama has this with a slam dunk but the good news is, hopefully some competition and conversation will spark some real conversations on what needs to happen next for America and where Obama plans to take things the next 4 years. I’m still hopeful but we really need change this time around! 

Sure fire bets - We have no idea. There will be a lot of wild cards this year. Some things will go up. Somethings will go down. Somethings we don’t even know about will smack us in the face and change our lives forever. One thing is for sure… 2012 is here and it’s gotten off to an excellent start!
